  • CEMENT POTS
  • PLASTIC POTS
  • GROW BAGS

Choosing the right pot is the next big task. Pots play a vital role in the growth of plants. (The pot makes a difference in plants’ growth.) Many people have their own choices and preferences regarding it. Nowadays there are vast varieties of pots available in the market (clay, cement, plastic, and ceramic). You just have to choose the right pot according to your plants.

If you are thinking to choose the right pot for your vegetable garden then your worries end here.

The first and the best is the Clay Pots.

These pots are available in sizes ranging from small to medium. The advantage of these pots is that the plants remain healthy. This is because it has small pores that allow water to drain properly and helps the plant to get an ample amount of air. In the clay pot, you can plant coriander, fenugreek, spinach, tomato, brinjal, and vines.

Next are the Cement Pots.

These pots are available in all sizes. The advantage of these pots is that they are more durable as compared to other pots as it is made of hard and concrete material. They are also beneficial for big-sized plants. The other side of the coin is that these pots do not have pores due to which it becomes difficult for the plants to breathe. They are heavy and it becomes difficult to shift them from one place to another which bounds you to fix a particular place for it.

The Third is Plastic Pots.

Nowadays, they are in trend and in great demand. Plastic pots are available in many beautiful designs and colors. They are highly appreciated and liked by one and all. Due to their lightweight, they can be easily lifted and shifted anywhere. They also come in a variety of hanging pots. In the Terrace garden, most of the people like them due to lack of space. Hanging pots can be easily hung anywhere according to the availability of space. The drawback of these pots is that they do not have pores and also they get heated up too quickly.

Grow Bags and Plastic Bags are next on the list.

  • Their trend is increasing nowadays. They are easy to use and are also breathable due to which plants produce healthier roots. The drawbacks are that they are not so durable, are costly, and require more watering in comparison to other pots.

And finally, if you have open land, then it is better to have a plant in direct soils.

How to Prepare the Soil for your vegetable garden?

Soil plays a chief role in any type of vegetable garden, whether small or big. Good soil means good yield. Soil is the base and the foundation step of a garden. If the soil, will have good fertilizers and good nutrients, then whatever we plant will be automatically healthy.

To prepare the soil for the vegetable garden, divide it into three parts.

To prepare the soil for the vegetable garden
  • GARDEN SOIL
  • COCOPEAT
  • COMPOST

GARDEN SOIL

There is no point in losing sleep and worrying about the soil. Soil can be arranged from any nearby nursery, open ground, or from a place where the ground is being dug at the time of construction. The soil can be arranged from any of the above places and you should not worry about the quality of soil because the soil is never bad in itself. You just have to work hard to make it good soil.

COCOPEAT

The next thing that comes in the picture is coco peat. Cocopeat is the fiber of coconut. It is compressed and made into bricks. You can effortlessly find it in the nursery nearby or you can order it online through various e-commerce websites.

COMPOST

The last requirement is of the manures. You can take into consideration cow manure which is easily available in the cowsheds. You can either purchase manures directly from the nursery. A Vermicompost is also a good option. But still, if you are unable to find any of the above options, then the best option is to prepare your manure at home using the kitchen waste. Always use Organic Compost.

All of the above manures can also be directly purchased from e-commerce.

Now by combining these three: Soil, Coco Peat, and Fertilizer; we can prepare good soil. And yes, if you do not get coco peat then do not worry there is also a solution. You can add dry leaves instead, which you can easily get from the park or nursery. This whole process is called potting mix.

How to Make the Pot Ready for Planting?

The pot is the home for the plants. As human beings need proper ventilation in their homes, the plants too need it as they too have a life like us. So the pot in which we are sowing the seeds plays a vital role in its growth. We need to ensure that a hole is made at the bottom of the pot for drainage purposes and proper ventilation of air. Now put pebbles on top of the hole. This process is of utmost importance as it ensures that the hole does not get clogged with soil and the extra water drains easily while watering the plants.

Now fill the soil which you have prepared in the pot. In this way, your pot gets ready for planting seeds or to transplant any other plant.

Choosing the Right Seeds or Plants for your Vegetable Garden.

Vegetables are grown in different regions according to the different climatic conditions because different vegetables have different temperature preferences. First of all, choose the vegetables that you and your family like to eat. If you have no idea about growing the vegetables according to the season you can take help from the staff of the nearby nursery. They will assist you regarding it.

Firstly you need to decide whether you want to sow a seed or transplant a small plant. If you want to start with a seed, always use a good seed. And if you want to start with plants, then you can also bring small plants from the nursery.

In the beginning, you can start your vegetable garden by bringing seeds of spinach, fenugreek, lettuce, coriander, mint, etc. You can grow them in small pots. These are the plants that grow in less time and less hard work is required. You can also bring seeds or small plants of tomatoes, brinjals, and chilies from the nursery which are easily available there. You can also sow radish and carrot seeds along with these plants and can also plant some vines such as bottle gourd, beans, bitter gourd, etc.

Care and Hard Work Required in your vegetable garden.

In the beginning, proper care and a lot of hard work are required for the growth of the plants. Like we do for a small child. Plants are also similar to small children.

The first and foremost important step we need to keep in mind is to give the right amount of water to the plants. You have to water the plants slowly either with the help of water showers or sprinkle with the help of your hands. As you have just sowed the seeds or planted small plants, you have to water the right amount according to its requirement, neither much nor less. You can water, when the top surface of the soil becomes dry or when it hardens.

The next important step is the need to fertilize the soil from time to time. So, that these plants can get the right nutrients from the fertilized soil.  According to the need of the plants, if they will get nutritious nutrients, then their growth will also be good and we will also get nutritious vegetables. Do not use chemical fertilizers at all.  Try to add organic manure to your gardens like cow manure, vermicompost, dried leaves, or compost made through kitchen waste.

Protection against pests and diseases.

Now comes the issue of pests and diseases. When your plants start growing, then you will have to be very vigilant if there is any pest or disease in any of your plants. If so, in this case, they can be treated on time with organic methods. Some organic insecticides can be made at home and can also be used. For example; – boil some neem leaves in water and then cool the neem water, now you can spray the water on the plants. Many other organic sprays are easily available in the market or you can purchase them online.

Now Finally, Harvesting of Vegetables.

Some of the plants can be harvested several times; like spinach, fenugreek, coriander, mint, and lettuce. You can harvest them at least three times from time to time because they are such plants that grow again and again after cutting them.

And some vegetables should be picked only after they are fully grown or you can pick them only when you need them; like bottle gourd, beans, bitter gourd, etc.

All vegetable plants have a fixed life and have to be removed and replaced with a new crop.

And finally, I assure you that when you will start taking deep interest and good care of your vegetable garden then you will surely be able to find a solution to any problem yourself.

The fully loaded vegetable garden with ripe vegetables will give you a feeling of immense pleasure.

In this way, you can enjoy the vegetables of your garden to the fullest.
